Geophysics

Geoinformatics staff have expertise in the processing and interpretation of all forms of geophysical data routinely collected in the minerals exploration industry.

Geoinformatics sees the role of geophysical data as falling into two broad categories. For some ore-bodies, such as massive sulphide deposits or kimberlite pipes, data can be used to directly detect mineralization. Additionally, data can be combined with known geology to help create an improved, consistent, geological interpretation.

The geophysical interpretation techniques used by Geoinformatics vary with the exploration environment, though all strive to provide an objective analysis of the data. Many algorithms have been developed and written in house and the range of commercial software packages used includes Oasis Montag, ER Mapper, ModelVision, Maxwell, Emaxair, and Matlab. The geophysics department aims to make semi-automated, unbiased analysis of data as easy and as quick as possible.

The process is managed by Principal Geophysicist  Rob Stuart.
